Carers Independent Advocacy Service

Do you need support to have your voice heard?

Swan Advocacy, commissioned by BCP Council and Dorset Council, provides the Pan Dorset Independent Advocacy Service to ensure individuals and carers receive independent support in accessing the services they need.

What this service offers:

  • Independent advocacy supporting individuals and carers to express their views and wishes.
  • Help navigating care and support including assessments, care planning, and reviews.
  • Support with decision making particularly for those who may struggle to communicate their needs effectively.

Specialist advocacy services:

  • Care Act Advocacy for those having trouble engaging with care services.
  • Mental Capacity Act Advocacy (IMCA) ensuring people who lack mental capacity have their rights protected.
  • Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) for individuals detained under the Mental Health Act.
  • Continuing Healthcare Advocacy (CHC) helping people understand and challenge CHC funding decisions.
  • Carers Advocacy supporting unpaid carers to ensure their voices are heard in decisions affecting them and their loved ones.
  • Confidential and independent support all advocacy services are free and provided independently of local authorities and healthcare services.
