Beach hut breaks
We have 4 beach huts - our 'beach retreats' - available to carers looking after someone who pays Council Tax to BCP Council. Carers can book for a small fee of £5 per day.
The huts are located at:
- Sandbanks (suitable for those with accessibility issues)
- Alum Chine (steep-sloped access)
- Boscombe (around a 10-minute walk to the toilets)
- Avon Beach (Christchurch)

Using the beach hut
Use of the beach huts is restricted to a maximum of 6 people and we ask you to be considerate to any neighbours.
Sorry, no pets in the beach huts.
The beach hut at Avon Beach cannot be used between 1 hour after sunset and sunrise.
Facilities
We've kitted out the beach huts with some useful items:
- chairs
- crockery, cutlery, kettle and a gas hob (at Sandbanks, Alum Chine and Boscombe only)
- portable ramp (at Sandbanks and Alum Chine only)
- washing up bowl and dish cloths (at Sandbanks, Alum Chine and Boscombe only)
- cleaning supplies
You will need to bring your own tea towel.
Keys
On the day of your booking, you can get the key from the key safe (at Sandbanks the key safe is on the wall to the side of the beach hut doors, at Alum Chine and Boscombe the key safe is on the beach hut). At Avon Beach, access is through a combination padlock on the beach hut.
We will give you the key safe or padlock code and explain how to use it when we confirm your booking.
Please make sure you return the key to the key safe at the end of the day, or replace the coded padlock on the doors.
Getting to the beach huts
Alum Chine:
- MoreBus 12/70 goes to Alum Chine where they turn around
- there is a car park at Alum Chine with 6 disabled parking bays
- when running, the land train runs to and from Alum Chine
Sandbanks:
- you can catch the Breezer 60 bus from Poole Bus Station or Breezer 50 from Bournemouth Interchange, there will be a short walk at Sandbanks to the beach hut itself
- if you use a disabled blue badge, and are tax exempt, you will need to make sure you have a Disabled Tax Exempt Permit BCP Council.
Boscombe:
- pay and display parking is available along the Undercliff for a majority of the year, during major events, such as the Air Festival, parking restrictions may apply
Avon Beach:
- MoreBus x1/x2 stop at nearby Bure Lane, Avon Beach is a short walk from the bus stop
- pay and display parking is available at Avon Beach Car Park or Avon Run Car Park, both car parks are open from 9am to 9pm daily
